History
The drug-free asthma treatment implemented by Asthma Smart was developed by Dr Alexander James and passed on to his daughter, Nina Marzi. Their contributions to the lives of asthmatics were profound and Asthma Smart is enthusiastic to continue their mission of eradicating asthma.

Dr Alexander James
Born in Russia, and educated in Moscow, Paris and Sydney, Dr Alexander James discovered that asthma was not a disease, but a condition of the lungs.
This condition is characterised by deprivation of sufficient room within the ribcage for normal respiration. Bronchitis is a dominant feature of asthmatics, linked to defective breathing through the mouth.

Dr James developed his method of breathing exercises and mechanical vibratory stimulation in 1920. He invented his own electrical vibrator, the first of its kind to be used successfully in the management of asthma.
This was the birth of his treatment of asthma, which developed and matured, and still to this day achieves miraculous results.
Nina Marzi
Nina Marzi (1921 - 2023) was the daughter of Russian physician, Dr Alexander James.
He was famous, especially in the Illawarra, for his unique method of drug-free asthma treatment. Dr James saw thousands of patients over his career, with many travelling to Wollongong purposefully to see him until he died in 1976.

After being taught by her father, Nina continued his work in the Illawarra region, further developing the treatment.
Nina devoted her life to the well-being of asthmatics in the community and taught others her father's method, including Maureen Lavis.

Nina passed away peacefully in her Byron Bay home in 2023 at the age of 102.
