Biography of Dr James
Dr. Alexander James always dreamed of creating a healthier world for humanity. His unwavering dedication to medicine was evident through his strong convictions, kindness and generosity, always ready to help others.
Dr. James's academic journey began with distinction, earning him a scholarship to Moscow University, where he completed his Medical Degree with Honours. This achievement led him to Paris, where he had the opportunity to study under Professor Maurice Pilgrim, renowned for his work in Vibratory Stimulation Techniques (Vibrotherapy).
Here, Dr. James learned the value of natural methods, which he later applied in his practice, achieving remarkable success with his therapeutic hand massage. His techniques enabled polio victims to walk and lead normal lives, showcasing his extraordinary medical skills.
Dr. James excelled in orthopaedic surgery, developing expertise in creating prostheses. His career saw him become the House Surgeon of the Military Hospital and Artificial Limbs Centre in Rostov-on-Don. With the onset of the 1917 Russian Revolution, Dr. James felt a duty to return to Russia, where he volunteered his services to a Red Cross front-line unit.
Throughout his life, Dr. James consistently went beyond the call of duty, always putting others' needs before his own. When a cholera outbreak struck a village and no other doctor would go, Dr. James volunteered, risking his life to save many others. This selflessness was a defining characteristic of his humanitarian spirit.
Dr. James's commitment to helping the underprivileged was exemplified by his establishment of the first Tientsin Polyclinic in China. He persuaded top surgeons and specialists to donate their time, ensuring that even the poorest received the best medical care at minimal cost. This clinic was a monumental success, saving numerous lives.
Dr. James believed in the importance of finding the right means to achieve medical success. His innovative spirit led him to invent an electrical vibrator when none was available, performing medical miracles with it for the rest of his life. His perseverance and dedication were evident in his work on asthma.
In 1920, he discovered that asthma was not a disease but a condition of the lungs caused by insufficient room within the ribcage for normal respiration. This immobility of the chest cage came about through defective shallow breathing. He developed a method involving breathing exercises and a special electrical vibrator, which proved highly effective in treating asthma.
Despite his significant achievements, Dr. James faced challenges upon arriving in Australia in 1940. Initially told he couldn't practise medicine, he defied expectations by re-entering University at age 61, eventually graduating as a Doctor of Medicine from Sydney University in 1946. His unique natural asthma treatment was offered to the Asthma Foundation, which, despite recognising its effectiveness, preferred new pharmaceutical treatments.
Dr. James's method of treating asthma has been successful since its inception in 1920. It has been available in Australia since 1940, providing a safe, pleasant, and effective treatment without side effects. His method, tailored to individual patient needs, typically shows results from the first day of treatment.
Dr. James's persistence in promoting his method was driven by a desire to offer asthma sufferers a choice in their treatment. He believed in living a life of purpose and leaving a lasting legacy. His unique method of treating asthma passed down to his daughter, continues to provide a second chance at life for many.
Dr. Alexander James will be remembered for his selflessness, innovation, and tireless dedication to improving health outcomes. His life’s work and legacy live on through the countless lives he touched and the enduring impact of his medical contributions.
